Greater New Orleans Foundation/The Idea Village
Water Challenge Entrepreneurial Competition (2010-14)
The Water Challenge is an annual entrepreneurial competition funded by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and facilitated by The Idea Village. The program seeks to build Louisiana's water expertise by nurturing and rewarding innovative entrepreneurs working to solve compelling water problems. NOLAVibe managed key aspects of the first four Water Challenges, including program development and outreach. NOLAVibe also curated the Water Challenge day during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week (NOEW) at which the finalists competed for $50,000 in seed capital. The day's themes and activities included Louisiana cuisine, art and music.
In 2012, Tulsa Partners awarded the Water Challenge team with its Nania Award ("All Together") which recognizes "the outstanding collaborative work of individuals and corporate/nonprofit entities in creating a disaster-resistant and sustainable community." In 2013, we developed the Water Challenge Action Plan (WCAP) to evaluate and identify potential partners to help manage and grow the program.
For the 2015 Water Challenge, Propeller: A Force for Social Innovation, an organization highlighted in the WCAP, was tapped to manage the program.
