Horizon Initiative Water Committee (2009-2015)

The Horizon Initiative Water Committee (HIWC), founded in 2009, is an interdisciplinary group of volunteers who meet monthly to promote integrated water management principles and watershed-oriented, low impact development. These principles are key components of the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan, which the committee monitors and supports. The committee is a catalyst for change, a forum for sharing ideas and information, and a powerful resource for promoting best practices for development in both public and private sectors. The HIWC focuses on the economic development potential of visionary water management, and its members represent a wide array of diverse industries, agencies, organizations and backgrounds, reflecting the multidisciplinary approach needed for truly sustainable and resilient communities. NOLAVibe facilitates monthly meetings, maintains a blog, and serves as a communication connector and resource. The HIWC is the precursor of the Louisiana Water Network.
